Blog discription

What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Space Hulk commission done! Yeah!

Just a quickie post, I finally finished the last two Blood Angels for my friends Space Hulk game. Thank goodness and all that is divine, I am finally done!!!!!

Painting only for me from now on! It's hard to let these go. When you paint up a model they become your babies. Going to another home just don't seem right.

Anyways here are a couple of photos.

As always thanks for looking.

Cheers

The evil that lurks in the dark, finished

Yep, I finally summoned up enough mojo to place my personal projects aside and finished those Genestealers. In the end it wasn't so hard, just my heart is not into the subject matter as it once was. Oh I will play for sure, but just lack the conviction to paint and play. I have been in and out of 40K stuff so much I can't keep count. The only game I am currently involved in with Games Workshop is Adeptus Titanicus. Well at least until they put out another cool model.... no stop it... I will resist!

Anyways here are a few shots of what I did as living proof. I placed figures that would be more like the center pieces first, followed by the grunts.

[The Beast in Charge of all the rest]

[and the rest of the pack]

This leaves me with these last two figures to complete and I will be done, done. I am so looking forward to it.

As always thanks for looking.

Space Hulk: Librarian finished

Well I sat down to paint some Carthaginians and then felt the uneasy stare of my uncompleted Librarian upon me. Talk about the three ghost thingy over Christmas. Well I am not one to disturb the spirits so I grab the little bugger and finished him.

Let's see that gives me 3 Marines, and 23 Genestealers left to do.

.............................................

.............................................

Sigh, I'll get there one day.

In the meantime here is the Librarian for the Blood Angel Chapter for the Games Workshop game Space Hulk.

I probably won't post before New Years so if I don't..... I hope the new year brings us all a better one.

Space Hulk: Blood Angels commission

Haven't been around for a while. Just burned out from everything that has happened to all of us in 2020. Just bananas. No motivation to paint, because why if you can't get together to game with your friends. On top of that winter is coming, not the Game of Thrones kind, but if feels as epic with the invisible enemy amongst us. The days are whirling by at an astounding rate, at least to me, but the last week or so I've started to see through my cloudy vision.

I've actually painted up 9 Blood Angels Terminators out of 13 I have to complete, plus a little robot thingy. This has given me a feeling of success and accomplishment that I hope will propel me in the coming weeks to complete them. Then I have like 24 Genestealers to paint, and while those are not difficult to paint of course Games Workshop would make them mini vignettes with them climbing all over bulkheads and dangling wires and such. Gads!

But the Termies where definitely the more difficult to paint and I am glad I tackled them first. This will give my non painting friend a very nice looking set of miniatures to play on his board. Then I can finally, finally, finally start painting stuff for me.

Yes meeeeeee! I have so many things I want to paint just for the joy of painting them, and not necessarily to game with. Any positive feeling this year is a good thing I say.

Well without further ado I present to you the nine. First all nine, one at a time, as front views. Then a few group photos from behind. I hope you enjoy my work.

As always thanks for looking.

Cheers

Space Hulk commission

There’s a reason I don’t do commissions... normally. The reason is I paint it, I keep it.

It’s hard enough to paint for ones self, much less other people.

That said I have a friend that does not paint. He is a gamer. He buys games that use miniatures to play with on a game board. Not buys miniatures to game miniatures. So no paints, no skills (other than one color and a wash). When he really likes a game and will keep it forever, he commissions someone to do it for him. I usually resist.

Enter Covid. He is still working, I could really use the extra cash, the next thing you know I’ve struck a devils bargain.

So I took on 37 pieces, which I am normally lucky to do for myself in a year. Gone are the mass painting days for me. It’s more like, ooh, I like that figure and then will paint... a figure. Of course only on days I am motivated enough to even sit down to do so.

Like most, as I grow older, I’ve gone from having to collect large amounts of figures for mass battles, down to collecting a few dozen for skirmish wargaming. The reduced paint load has been a relief, and I’ve actually enjoyed painting more. I even have more time to do other things hobby.

That said, my friend knew this, and was willing and patient enough to wait for me to do them.

I finished up a very small prior commission of 10 figures for Freeblades, again with reasons above pertaining, to start in earnest on this one.

Here is a picture of where I am at with Space Marine Terminators. Then I have Genestealers to start. Both sides are very busy and require a lot of detail work. Space marines should be obvious in picture, genestealers because the bastards at Games Workshop made them on little dioramas.

But I will survive. I’ll get it done. Then when I do, and with a sigh of relief, I can go back to painting what I want to.

As always thanks for looking, and this time for lending me your ear to get it out;)

Cheers

Deathwing Terminatior Squad for Space Hulk complete!!!

YES!!!!

I am soooo happy to finally be done with this project. Yes indeed, it's been a long journey down that painting path of other projects crying out for attention, but I finally made the big push these last couple of days and completed the most important dude of the squad, the Sergeant. So without further ado here he is, as well as a snap of the completed squad together.

And all the boys together.............

Deathwing Terminators for Space Hulk "Apothecary"

Well I haven't forgotten how to use a paint brush, just getting myself to sit down and do it has been my problem. So I have finally finished number 4 of 5. I present to you my Apothecary. This leaves me only my Sargent to finish, which I have started to work on. Mostly figuring out just how I want to do the Power Sword, but that's another (hopefully soon) story to tell.

Deathwing Terminators for Space Hulk, another private

Well the Yo-yo affect continues in my life and I've swung the ole paint brush back over to Scifi mode. Finished another Private and here he is.

Here is a shot of another Private I finished earlier but this time based.

And a group shot of the three figures I've done so far.

Now I only have two figures to go to complete my squad for Space Hulk gaming over at our club events. These will be the hardest of all five to do. A Sergeant with a Power Sword that will need special care in taping and airbrushing, then my Apocarthy which will be a challange to get the shading right on the helmet, it being white and all.

Thanks for taking a peek.
