King Williams War in Ireland: Viscount Kenmare's Regiment

 Using the excellent book from The League of Augsburg "For Ireland and King James!" I picked a regiment out that caught my eye. Viscount Kenmare's Regiment also known as The Caps. As per the book they may have been Fuzileers and supposedly all the men wore Grenadier caps. As to what they actually wore who knows, but it was a nice change of pace from painting floppy hats and added a bit of color to my growing force of little tin men. 

Unfortunately Warfare Miniatures only make models with the whole fancy grenadier kit, but that's okay I made it work. The book illustrations are superb and hopefully my attempt at painting the models will bring them some justice. I also lament not having a steady enough hand to paint the fancy lettering on the caps, so it was just plain yellow. 

In the end though I was happy with them.

King Williams War in Ireland: Troop of Hugh Sutherland's Regiment and another Senior Commander

 The project I started back in early July is complete! I have finished a troop of horse from Hugh Sutherland's Regiment and another Senior commander base. 

So the scenario I used for the template of what to paint can now be played. Now my goal is to double what I have, and add some artillery pieces.

 At the end of August I suffered burnout and stopped my Williamite War in Ireland project. This past week I picked up the brush again and carried on. I'll have one more troop to paint and then I'll add some more infantry and a few pieces of artillery.

King Williams War in Ireland: Danish Funen Regiment and the Comte Dutch Davo

 Well I finished the final infantry battalion for the Williamite side, the Danish Funen regiment. 

I also painted up a command figure. I really liked painting this figure and I had no idea what was really in his right hand until I started putting paint on the figure, the spyglass is so cool. What a nice sculpt. 

Since I'll be using the rules Donnybrook for my upcoming convention game, I'm going with the narrative flow and naming him Comte Dutch Davo. There is something pretty cool in having a figure represent you on the field of battle!

King Williams War in Ireland: King James II Life Guard

 So I had to switch it up right in the middle of painting my last needed foot battalion for the scenario I want to run. I just needed a break, so I painted up the first of four regiments of Cavalry for opposing force. 

I normally just glue the riders on the horses and paint them because of my process of mounting them on paint holders. My normal is painting pre gun powder cavalry and there isn't as much fluff. It was more difficult getting in the nooks and crannies, plus I primed them in the only spray can I had at the moment, white. So there's that as well. 

In the end I was still happy with how they turned out. But next time I will either get a can of black prime back in stock, or paint the riders separately.

King Williams War in Ireland: Danish Garden til Fods (Foot Guards)

 Getting close, this is my third battalion done of four I am going for. After that I will paint four cavalry units. I think I may make my deadline.

So far no burnout and still having fun with this period. Some Star Wars Storm Troopers, and Tuetonic Knight foot soldiers almost caught my eye and diverted me, but I am staying strong!

This installment is the Danish Foot guards that had straw colored coats. Man, straw can be so many colors! I ended up going with Vallejo Desert Yellow, followed up by Yellow Ochre. I like how it came out.

Next up the Danish Funen battalion.

King Williams War in Ireland: Pierre Massue, Le Marquis de Caillemotte Regiment

 Three Regiments were part of King Williams army in Ireland. Here is one of those that I have painted up for a scenario I am going to try to do at a local convention at the end of September. I almost have the second one done, which gives me two more to do. Then I have to paint several troops of horse for opposing forces. Time is short, but I think I can get there.

King Williams War in Ireland: King James "The Earl of Clanrickard's Regiment"

 After talking with Clarence about this Regiment, I decided to go ahead with my own take of how the Clanrickard Regiment would look. Not having ordered the Civilian packs, I did my best to mix up the colors, though staying on theme of red coats with Yellow cuffs etc. 

Now I have a force for both sides to do a small Donnybrook fight. But my main goal is to do one of the 4play scenarios. So I still need to paint four Regiments of Foot, and four of Cavalry for opposing forces.

King Williams War in Ireland

 I'm not exactly sure how it started, but I think it was about around the time I put on a Tribal game a few weeks ago. While I was setting that up I happened to see my Here's the Ruckus rules and that made me think about putting on another game of that sometime. Later at bedtime when I was looking up stuff on Youtube for the above subjects I think the algorithm popped up something about the rules Donnybrook. 

Well the next thing you know I was off to the races checking that out as it's another cool looking skirmish game set during the Nine Years War, Spanish Succession etc. Next thing you know I was checking out the mother for the rules Donnybrook called Beneath the Lily Banners. Watching a few vids on the King William Wars or the War between the three Kings I was totally sucked into yet another period.

So to not fall into the trap of buying another shiny thing, I slept on it. Not for just one night, but a few. They say if you do that and still want it, go for it. I'm not sure who said that or if I just invented it for an excuse, but either way a few hundred dollars later and I had bought enough stuff to play a scenario. I only have to paint up about a hundred foot and about 30 mounted. Ha! I can do that... maybe... hopefully. The key will be painting as much as I can before something else shiny turns my head.

To help in these matters I decided not to paint 18 to 24 figures for foot units. Since the base size is key I went with painting only 12. Now I know it won't look quite the same on the table to some, but it's for me so, ha! 

On top of that I wanted to do the single based figure rules for Donnybrook so I am painting them all on single bases and when I want to play larger scale I'll mount them on magnetic stands.

So here is my first unit for King William, the Danish Unit Prince Georg's Regiment and I can't wait to paint up the rest plus the Irish.
