What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Freeblades: Urdagger Boar Warrior

So I finished another figure as a painting mercenary for my friend. This one is called a Boar Warrior. At first I wasn't sure about this figure but as I painted it, I realized it made me think of the movie "Conan". No not that horrific remake. I am talking the one and only true Conan movie with Arnold "the man" Schwarzenegger. Either you like Arnold or you don't, but this movie made me feel like I was reading the Conan books.

The point is this figure had me thinking of the huge muscly men with over-sized weapons, but no matter, they were super cool! One scene in the movie where the one over sized dude had this big hammer like thing and takes a swing unintentionally hitting a big column which cracks and cause the place to cave in. YES! I love these kind of movies!

The movie playing in the background also definitely made it more fun painting this model. So without further ado I present the man himself, the Boar Warrior.

Freeblades: Another figure done...

The Night Hunter.

The Night Hunter is the ultimate scout and huntress. She stalks her quarry from a great distance and brings them down unawares using stealth and uncanny marksmanship. The owl wing tattoos covering her eyes are the distinct mark of her trade.

So reads the description of this figure on dgsgames website. This is another figure from the painting commission I took on for a friend. I had started two figures at same time but this one bumped my attention from working on the other one. This was a fun figure to paint but at the same time difficult because of all the browns.

Another factor with all the browns involved was the color of her hair. They are like barbarian cave like people and their hair is predominately black. I didn't think black would look good on this figure and I considered blonde, but I thought that would look more elvish and stand out to much. I ended up settling on auburn color and hemmed and hawed about it being another brown. But it came out pretty good color palette wise.

Lastly for some reason the bow tips made me think of serpent or snake heads, so I got a little creative and painted serpent heads on the bow tips. I figured it was a good fit for someone who can strike from a distance with venomous arrows (okay my imagination goes off a bit sometime).

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Freeblades the miniature fantasy game painting commission

DGS games  puts out rules and models for a skirmish fantasy based game that seems to be picking up steam.

A month ago or so a friend of mine asked me if I would paint ten figures for him. I am pretty sure this was his sly way to get me to become involved. It worked, I spent the commission to buy my models for a warband which I will certainly post here in the coming weeks and months (I have mentioned in past posts that I paint slow right?). But before I can start painting mine I have to finish these, and one other friends models for a Space Hulk commission I picked up after I committed to Freeblades, and that friend knows this and that I’ll punch his out right after.

Small tears forming in my eyes as stuff for me will have to wait.

In the meantime here are three finished figures with seven left to go.

The first three are of the model called the Lioness, for obvious reasons, with the last three being of a Bear Mystic caster who can change into a bear, hence the two in all photos.
