Blog discription

What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Showcase: Nomad Daktaris doctor from the old Nomads Support Pack

This little beauty didn't turn out exactly like I had hoped, but I like it and will approve stamp it's entry to the battle case so I can move onto the next figure in the Que.

As always thanks for looking.

Showcase: Infinity Yu Jing Celestial Guard

I am participating in my local Infinity Clubs paint a new army by November 23rd of 2019. It's a 300 point limited insertion list, which means not normally more than 10 models, but with servant bots and HVT's (High Value Targets) it could reach 14 or 15 models. Now while this doesn't sound like a lot, it's not, it still is a challenge. Especially for this old ADD... CDO (OCD done correctly) kind of person who sees a squirrel and like a hound dog my attention is immediately torn away from what I am supposed to be doing. But hey, don't all of us hobbyists have that in common, the oh ahh factor, and buying a ton of crap only for it to never see the light of the gaming table (unless you play with them unpainted, BUT WHO DOES THAT I ASK YOU???).

Yep I have a ton of different periods that I like to convince myself that I am working on all of them simultaneously, because I can! But I am still waiting for myself to display these said works of art to prove that I am actually doing this.

Hence the reason that I say, it's only 10 models or so, but......

Well without poo pooing about it any longer let me show you what I have done with my time this past two weeks. I selected the faction Yu Jing, and within that faction there is a Sectorial called the Imperial Service. It's like the Yu Jing's faction secret police army. I kind of have a thing lately for the bad guys, you know, like Darth Vader, Darth Maul, stuff like that.

As Always thanks for looking.

Showcase: Combined Army additions

What a crazy Summer this has been so far for me. I am watching four children as a sitter gig and, though the kids are great, I am mentally exhausted by end of day and have had no energy to paint much or post.

But I have not been totally idle. Here are a few additions I have been able to add to my Onyx Sectorial list for the Combined Army for Infinity. If you believe in the Dark Side, then this is the Army for you.

First up is a figure from Corvus Belli Dire Foes 6 box set called "Free-lance Stringer". She is considered an HVT (High Value Target). In the game Infinity if you capture your opponents HVT you can gain objective points toward your score in trying to win the game. Infinity is basically an objective based game, so just going around murdering your opponent won't necessarily win you the battle. Here are a few snaps of her.

Next up is a Combined Army Drone Remote called an "E - Drone", which is armed with a Combi rifle for defense, but more importantly is a Hacking unit, which like it sounds, will cause havoc with the enemies network.

Lastly for tonight I present Corvus Belli's "Pneumarch of the Ur Hegemony" another HVT model like the Free Lance stringer, except here I am using this model as a proxy for the Combined Army's "Nexus Operative" a hacker type model armed with a combi rifle. I was not pleased with Corvus Belli's scuplts for the Nexus Operative so I decided to use the Pneumarch as it is really close, and I think you will agree with me, a very cool looking model.

Well that's it for now and as always thanks for looking.

Showcase: Infinity: Anaconda Mercenary Pilot

Well previously I posted my work on a TAG (Tactical Armored Gear) for my Mercenary Starco company for the game Infinity. I had not finished the Pilot and played a game where my Anaconda was promptly shot down on the first game turn (sigh, I never catch a break in this game), but the Pilot successfully got out of the escape hatch, except I hadn't finished the pilot to place on the table. I ended up using a proxy figure in her place, but my CDO (OCD done correctly) about shut down my neverous system not playing with the properly painted figure. But I survived and today, I know weeks later, I finished her. I am sure I am going to need her for many future games.

Here she is in all her glory, my pouty little pilot soldier.

As always thanks for looking.

Showcase: Infinity: Brawler's for Starco

I mentioned in my Raoul Spector post that I had posted my Brawler model pictures, but it appears that I forgot. So I will remedy this now, here are the three Brawler models I painted up for my Mercenary Company Starco for Infinity.

I really like these models and they were fun to paint. I think I am taken in by the face plates from the art concept and what the studio artists painted them up to look like. The camo jackets are based on summer WWII German ones and not what the studio painted up.

Sorry about not posting these earlier.

Showcase: Infinity: Raoul Spector Special Operative

Slowly adding models to my Mercenary company called Starco. As you saw in a previous post I had painted up an Anaconda TAG and some Brawler mercenaries.

My next addition here is the character named Raoul Spector. He's an expensive (point wise) model to add to the company, but his cost is worth it with all the cool things he can do. He has two profiles, one with Combat Jump ability, and another with FTO (Fire Team Option) which makes him kind of a wildcard to add to fire teams to buff their abilities when operating as a team.

I don't know a whole lot about Raoul's background story but I wasn't sure I liked the model. I think it's his Combat Jump wings. Kind of makes him look like a vulture or something, and I can certainly tell you from being prior service that running around in the bush with those things attached is a GIANT NO GO. I probably haven't read it anywhere, but it would seem logical that once he has made his jump that those wings would fold into his gear compartment on his back, or at least quick release off so he can operate unencumbered. Here is a stock photo of him from his packaging.
See what I mean, like a vulture or bat wings. I ain't playing batman game so this setup up is out the door for me. Now I mentioned he comes with two profiles, the other is his FTO profile and with this he doesn't have Jump capability so I felt no remorse in leaving them off.

Now I normally follow the Studio paint job or their concept art. But here I had to depart. While the paint job is good (awesome compared to my ability) I simply don't like the scheme chosen. It doesn't feel right to me.

So with my limited artistic knowledge I went on a little art journey adventure and tried to paint him up like I would think he would actually operate out in the field. Being a bad ass, I am going to sneak up on you and blast you at close range, or sprinkle around those cute little drop bears (like anti personnel mines) for the enemy to set off. My first thought was since Starco is a collection of Nomads etc. I could paint him up in a theme that would allow him to fit in with what I've painted already. My thoughts turned to the Corregidor Bandit that Angel painted for Corvus Belli in his art book. So I took a little inspiration from this and went for it.

Here is what I came up with. Oh and I made my own base to fill in around models base, because of how the model was molded I didn't want to screw around with hacking bits of the base off and try and come up with something to put his upraised leg on without it looking stupid.

Showcase: Infinity: Anaconda Mercenary TAG

As the story line expands in the Infinity World my eyes have been drawn to the Mercenary Companies. One of which is called the "Starco" (the good guys of course) which came out with the book Uprising. The reason, mostly, I decided to put together one of these companies is that I can use my Nomad collection. This allows me to spice things up with my Nomad collection and do something different. The other is the very cool limited edition (and now a regular box has been added) Brawler models that Corvus Belli has released, and I've been collecting. Are they good troops? I don't know. Are they equipped with the latest and greatest weapons and technology? I don't know. Are they very, super, awesome, good looking? Oh hell yeah! So the rule of cool says I have to paint them up. I've finished three of them already but ran out of Dulcote so I will post them later.

Now as I went through the Starco list to see what troops I could collect (or had already with my Nomads) I noticed the only TAG this list can have. I've been on this TAG binge lately, and the one the Starco company can have is called the Anaconda. It's big, heavy (seriously could hurt my opponent if I hurl it at them), and it has a sword! Who doesn't like a giant mechanical like robot that has a pilot in it.... with a sword!

So of course I had to paint it up. It wasn't too hard to put together for one of their (Corvus Belli) older models, but I did have to pin the legs, arms (for the pilot as well), among some other things. Who wants their paint job screwed up if it falls apart in the middle of a game.

So for now here are some photos of my finished Anaconda TAG.

As always thanks for looking.

May the 4th be with you, Infinity style

I know, lame, but I couldn't help it. Hell I even watched a Star Wars movie today! What can I say.

A few weeks ago I painted up a few more miniatures for my Combined Army (Alien race that has invaded the Human Sphere type stuff) and, though I am far from painting everything I want for it, am posting what I have finished of late. So without further ado, I present my Onyx Sectorial Army for the Combined Army.

[My Xeodron below and he is a big brute. I actually enjoyed painting him]

[Below is my Maakrep sniper]

[Fraacta Drop unit (think Airborne/glider thingy. It has an ability called Transmutation where it can take a wound and keep on fighting until it takes another. So I drilled it out and placed magnets on back and wing so I could take the wings off to show when it has transformed]

[The next four below are my medium infantry type grunts called Rodoks]

[and last but not least I placed magnets on bottom of the bases so I could carry them around in my handy dandy carrying case.]

That's it for now, I am working on some other Infinity figures on and off and will post some more pictures of those when I finish.
