I've added to my Border Wars collection today with 6 mounted Reivers. These are from Flags of War Border Wars collection and are called the Broken Men. Back from the war, destitute, and perhaps no large family name to lean on. They would rustle up horses, cattle, etc. to make a shilling here and there, or perhaps pick up a writ from the Warden to hunt down someone like themselves that have been causing to much trouble.
Finished up the last four cattle stands I have. There will soon be another release of around 30 more metal figures (foot, cavalry, dogs, etc.) and I am looking forward to that. But I now have enough figures to run a proper game, so away I go!
These guys where a hoot to paint. The sculpts are just gorgeous, and there maybe another 90 or so coming in a kickstarter. I really hope so, they are totally worth the money.
Just four more cows to paint and I am off to the races to game with these lads.
So the Queen, or some other courtly official, sent the Envoys to the border to try and resolve the disputes. Flags of War with tongue in cheek made a set of figures for the Envoy’s based off the BBC series The Black Adder.
Though I did not paint mine to mimic this comedy, I did my best to represent some generic looking costumes of the period. I believe I was successful in this.
I have more in the pipe to add to this small Skirmish game and will post more photos soon.

I am hoping to run a game of Border Wars: Under a Reiver Moon at Pro or Con in September. This all depends though on my friend finishing his eight foot figures, and I, eight foot figures, three emissaries, and four cattle. Then us both getting together and playing a few games so we actually know how to teach and run the game.
Things are moving slow due to some personal family issues but I have faith. The Sun still shines even on cloudy days.
Well it's been awhile, but I trudged along and finally finished my five mounted Reiver's. These figures, as well as the game, are available through Flags of War .

Unfortunately the bast.... ahem, I mean good fellow has taken a vacation to Ireland for a few weeks so I won't be seeing the finished project in my hands any time soon. But that's okay, because I still have a bit of painting to do, and so does my poor friend Mark who I sort of talked into doing this with me by saying to him "hey, there is this cool period and figures available and I think we should do it! Oh and by the way you owe me such and such dollars as I bought them for you already."
Yeah, it was like that. Fortunately he went along with it, but I don't see myself getting away with that again anytime soon. You gotta love me as a friend, or.... I'll just leave this at that.
The following are what you've all been waiting for, the pictures. First the Leader, followed by the Hero, and then the three Soldiers (grunts), and a group shot.
So I am all excited about this historical game called Border Wars: Under a Reiver Moon. One because I am fourth generation Scottish (yep I am one of those people), and second because who wouldn't want to go full gangsta during the Elizabethan period.
Flags of War came out with this a short time ago as a kickstarter, but know you can order directly from them. They plan on adding to the current line, and they just added some Irish recently. I am totally waiting on getting some of those border hounds.
They are 28mm metal models, and right now they have cattle, sheep, etc. (very important for this as that's what a lot of this was all about, cattle rustling). They have a typical Border family, some envoys, and of course foot soldiers as well as mounted. The figures are beautifully sculpted and cast. Very little flash, and the cursed mold lines.
While I waited to get my order all the way from Scotland, I busied myself with Wargames Atlantic's box set of Conquistadors. They fit the period costume and weapon wise, and they are roughly the same size so will mix in well together.
I just got my order a couple of days ago, but I had already finished five foot figures from the plastic box set. Of course before I went to spray a protective coating on them, my hand brushed up against the one holding the sword up at shoulder height and it snapped in half. I wasn't about to cut the arm off and place another and repaint it all over again, so I just took a piece of wire and made a splint and glued it back together again. People won't notice unless I point it out, and I am not trying to win any painting contests, I just want to bloody game.
In the meantime I have a friend (you know who you are) that is making some blue foam terrain buildings for me. I am super geeked.
