Blog discription

What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Battletech Genyosha project

Finished another four mechs for my growing Genyosha project. A Banshee, Trebuchet, Hunchback, and a Thug (never go full Thug or people will start talking about you behind your back).

I need to paint at least another 12 to get where I want them to be. That would give me 28 mechs, but next are four more for my Kell Hound project.

As always thanks for looking.

Another Saga Army: Attila and his Hun's

Painted another Saga Army up about a month ago and just getting around to post some pictures. I need to paint another 12 cavalry and 12 infantry to have all the options I want, but burned out for now and waiting for my muse to get me going again, but that won't stop me posting what I have so far.

The Hun's with lance's are my Hearthguard and other than rebasing and flocking them, they were painted by my friend, and same goes for infantry. I painted Attila and the three groups of bow armed horsemen.

So here they are in all their splendor....

Middle Earth Battle Strategy game: Wild Warg Chieftain

Added another model for my MEBS game faction the Angmar. I've painted up the Wild Warg Chieftain which will lead a pack of Warg's on the table for me.

I really like this models dramatic pose. It's a metal model so it's pretty hefty, and it was fun to paint.

Now that this is done I've moved on to painting the Witch King on horseback, and foot. Not sure what I will tackle after that as I am going back and forth between game systems. I am painting stuff to the rule of cool and where ever my heart takes me. A lot more fun painting that way, but it is a little slower gathering enough pieces to have a force.

This is my model! There are many like it, but this one is mine!

...and now I am in a world of shit!

As always thanks for looking.

Scottish Highland Cows and everything you wanted to know about their kilt wearing!

Okay they don't really wear kilts, but how cool would that be for some fantasy-Scifi futuristic race I ask you?

These 3D prints were made for me to my size specifications by Oldsarges , he has the license so he can print stuff for you if you need something that's different from the main mini manufactures lines.

These two bases of 6 cattle complete the required number of bases I need for objective markers for the skirmish miniature game of Saga. They have a book on Magic, but it's mostly historical armies, which is my gig.

Here they are in all their mooing glory (or is that mooning if they were wearing kilts?)....

Charlemagne (the man in miniature)

Charlemagne or Charles the Great, a member of the Carolingian dynasty, was King of the Franks from 768, King of the Lombards from 774, and the first Emperor of the Romans from 800. Charlemagne succeeded in uniting the majority of western and central Europe and was the first recognized emperor to rule from western Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire around three centuries earlier. The expanded Frankish state that Charlemagne founded was the Carolingian Empire. He was canonized by Antipope Paschal III—an act later treated as invalid—and he is now regarded by some as beatified (which is a step on the path to sainthood) in the Catholic Church.

I painted Charlemagne up for a friend who is all things Polish and for some reason all things Charlemagne as well. A Gripping Beast figure that I copied from the artist that painted up an example for Gripping Beast.

More Middle Earth, Saga, and herds of animals!

So being an avid cyclist (not your go out and ride around the block type, you know those dudes that dress up in spandex and look like pro racers but aren't😉) it happens that this can cut into my painting time. When you go out and ride around 2 hours and beat yourself up, you don't really like sitting down to paint much after that.

Why am I saying this? This past month has been a little odd. My wife and I were given a gift by our grandchildren in the form of an RSV type cold. It hit my wife harder than me, but we were both laid low for two weeks because of it. I being a smarter than average bear stayed off the bike to allow my body to recover. But when I got better I made a decision that benefitted me in more ways than one. I decided to stay off the bike for another two weeks.

Man I am so happy I did. I hadn't realized how hard I had been pushing my body, and I started to feel better than I have in a long time. I am back on the trainer now and slowly building myself up, but I haven't felt this rested in a long time. The other super cool benefit was I painted my ass off.

In those two weeks I have painted 18 mounted Huns, 6 Warg riders, 4 stands of various herds for gaming with as objectives, and three objective markers. I also popped off 12 foot off their bases that a friend gave me a few years back and remounted them and completed the bases the way I like. I also stripped 8 Cavalry I got from same friend and redoing their bases to match my Huns I am painting up.

So all in all I have been highly productive, feel well rested, and ready to get that Hun army completed for Saga so I can start kicking some Saga butt!

So here are a few snaps of what I've worked on.

[above are my six Warg riders, I didn't go all out fancy, I just wanted them game standard so I can play Age of Magic (Saga ruleset) or Middle Earth Strategy Battle game]

[above are the foot figures I got from my good buddy Skip and remounted and flocked, paint job is his]

[above are three objective markers I need for some scenarios in Saga]

[above are two stands of Sheep herds from back in the period and I painted these not to be fancy but functional for scenario objectives for Saga]

[Finally same as above but pig herds from back in the day]

I realized after painting these four stands of animals that I will need two more, grrrr. Normally each player needs three, but I know my fellow players will never get around to doing so, so I will have to.

Well as always thanks for stopping by!

Hill Troll Chieftain Buhrdur

I have been as sick as a dog these past two weeks, no it wasn't the plague, but it sure felt like it. I had this one done a few weeks ago and finally felt good enough today to post some pictures.

This is my very first miniature I have painted for Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. I chose Buhrdur for no other reason than the rule of cool. He was fun to paint, and as I watch YouTube battles about MESBG, I am pretty fired up to paint up some buddies for him so I can start throwing some dice.

So here he is in all his glory.

As always thanks for looking and have a happy Thanksgiving.
