WIP: Emperor's Children 30K Horus Hersey

One of several projects I have going simultaneously, Today I felt like painting purple (that's right Skip, Purple! Live with it or I'll paint your horses purple!!!;)). So out came my Emperor's Children. I screwed up reading the 30K supplement codex (basically an Army book of what you can and can't have) and thought I could equip my regular Marine squads with the weapons choices I made. Turns out I was looking at the Veteran squad (Elite choice instead of regular Troop choice). Oh well, it's fantasy Science fiction so ha!

The above is my Contemptor Dreadnought I started building. I talked about and showed the build pictures of this in a previous post. Here it is with a little work done to it.

Here is one completely painted Emperor's Children Marine to show you what the squad will look like when finished.

Tomorrow I get to have the Dentist dig around in my mouth to fix some problems, so will see how I feel when I get home if I can knock some more of these boys out.

1941 lego world WWII battle of Brody

My friend Dave found this on Youtube and I was pretty impressed by it. Though it's done with lego's don't sell it short. I found it to be pretty historically accurate and well done, for lego's. Prepare yourself for a 6 minute history lesson;)

Less time means more projects of course!

Things have come to a crawl as my Wife underwent surgery last week and hobby time took a back seat to more important real life time. With my Wife feeling a bit better I was able to mess about in my hobby room and I started a few more projects. Nothing focused just did a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It felt good and was fun and that is what counts. So this is what took place:

Finally assembled the last five Necrons for my buddy Al, As he has patiently waited for these, I promised myself for every color I place on one of my own projects I would match it by placing a color on his. This picture is a little further along, but here they are with the primer on them.

Same thing with my buddy Skip, time to get his Moorish Warlord base on the move and I finished the horses and now only have the riders to go.

....and finally my little Horus Heresy project with my Emperor's Children Contemptor Dreadnought. Forge World resin kits are really expensive, beautiful, but expensive. This means taking ones time to get it right the first time, because my modeling skills are not the best, I didn't want to have bad things happen that would challenge those skills. As you can see with the picture below there are quite a few parts. Maybe not as many as on a plastic kit but what differs with the plastic kits (normally) is there is no slot A connects to slot B thing going on here. You have to figure out the positioning beforehand and I used a pencil to mark where I wanted stuff to go. Figuring out the feet was first. You especially have to be careful with the glue. Unlike the plastic kits using the insta-cure (super glue) on resin is it bonds almost immediately so you need to be precise off the get go when it comes to where you really want the part. Hence me using pencil to exactly mark.

Once I figured out the stance it was lining up the joints to look like a realistic pose. I think it didn't turn out to badly.

Finally the prime and I've decided to paint up everything in a sub assembly fashion. So I will complete this part before adding on the next so I don't have to worry about getting around bits with the brush.

Infinity Nightmare resolved and work in progress!

My friend Dave took it out of it's little sit bath of Pine-Sol after soaking for 24 hours, got out his trusty toothbrush and saved my poor little figure (and some cash too!). I am simply amazed at how well it came out. So fear not fellow painters, if you screw up, don't throw away your figures and buy new ones. If it's acrylic based then go out and buy yourself a bottle of Pine-Sol!

In the meantime here's a couple of shots of the one I didn't mess up with only one leg mostly finished, it's just to show the different stages that have to happen before I get to the finished leg looking effect. Even when that's done there will be tons of other detail work that needs to be done.

Infinity Nightmare part 2, the resolution at hand!

Well boys and girls it's another day and my very good friend Dave happened to have a bottle of Pine-Sol so was involuntarily recruited into helping strip this bad boy. He sent me a picture of an in progress moment and it looked like some sort of exotic fish so had to post a picture of it.

Hopefully it works out and in the next couple of days I will have this bad ass little baby back in my hands for another whack at the painting table.

My Infinity nightmare!!!

These Infinity miniatures are super fine detailed little buggers to paint.

My first try:

Looks like poop... I know. The bitch of the thing is I would simply throw it away and get another if the price of these babies wasn't so high. Fortunately a good Pine-Sol soaking will strip this crap with the help of a little tooth brush. Sigh.... It took so long to get to this point. Lesson learned is thin your paint out more, but more importantly use the bloody right paint pots.

My second try with a different model:

I just did one leg to try the new paints I picked up. I think the shading and layering worked much better. The main hull is going to be a bitch, but I'll just have to take my time.

Me? I don't have a problem!

Okay, okay maybe I do. Some of the projects I am working on all at the same time which means my wheels are stuck in the mud. This was a few weeks ago.

I need to paint up five Necrons for a buddy, and a Moor Warlord base for another. Since it was raining today I actually made progress on the Moor Warlord base. Got tired of doing that so have moved on to putting more of those stupid Necrons together ahhhh (okay their not stupid but it's not stuff for me grumble, grumble).

After putting some of those Necrons together I've had this Infinity itch for several years and done nothing with it. Suddenly I am on this big kick to finally do something about it and have started assembling them. They are tiny, delicate little bastards that are going to be a real challenge to paint because they are not Hero scale, but true to scale (I know there is another word for this). Of course it's Japanese Anime time with these things, which I like, but the female models are going to be something completely new to me. We will see how it goes.
