Blog discription

What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Age of Hannibal: Greek Mercenaries

So I decided to paint up some mercenaries for my Carthaginian Army and I painted up the most expensive, totally cool one that I could pick out. The Greek Mercenaries. A formidable force as they are considered Hearth guard, have determination (basically get a free activation without spending command dice), can close ranks and add +1 to their saving die rolls, but if they charge they only have an aggression of 1 instead of 2 (which means charging them will be insane), and finally because of their well kitted out equipment they are armor value 6 against shooting.

They ended up being a total bust being included in the army because mercenaries can't use the advance Saga abilities, and the cost of 2 points keeps you from getting that extra unit you need for this army.

BUT THEY WERE SO COOL!!!! Everyone who knows me the rule of cool is what I live by, win or lose.

As always thanks for looking.

Cheers
Kevin

  1. Ah yes, "the rule of cool" must always be considered!

Nice Bronze you used, it can be hard to get just right! The shield decals are outstanding. A really nice looking group of Mercenaries!!

I dare not miss commenting on the bases as well, they are perfect and show off the figures above nicely.

    1. Thanks Aaron, they are indeed. My opponent didn’t even bother trying his luck against them, but they proudly shined their armor while yawning;)

  3. Great hoplites, in spite of their SAGA rules limitations, Kevin!

    1. Thanks Dean, they are tough just expensive to place in Army. They will be very scenario limited.
