Blog discription

What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Here's the Ruckus: English 100 Years War

Finished! Yes! The English Retinue has been added to my collection. So now I have two forces to game with. I got the cards in the mail the other day, so now I just need to brush up on the rules for my first game.

I did the best I could free handing the Cross of St George on the English, but my unsteady hands are not as good as a decal would be, but from a distance they do the job. So without further ado here are a few pictures. The first grouping are my hero's followed by three groupings of my warbows.

As always thanks for looking.

Crucible Crush: Flint and Feather miniature game

Well I finished six more Indians for my Huron War Party for Flint and Feather, with three more to go to complete band. Then I get to paint the Iroquois. This will give me enough to put on games for both sides. These are wonderful sculpts by Crucible Crush and I enjoyed painting them. After looking at many drawings and doing some reading on face paint and tattoos I may have gotten a little creative but I like them. I like the last photo of the Shaman with his mask and cool magical turtle shell. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

The War Between the States

Yesterday my buddy Mark set up a Regimental Skirmish scale game for my small band of brothers. Mark has a lovely collection of American Civil War in both 15's and 25's. Our battle as you will see is of the one TRUE scale. It was a meeting engagement with both sides having two regiments of foot and one battery each.

The rules used were called Band of Brothers which is a very old set but still fun set of rules that you could almost call a two page rule set. Very easy and fast.

In the course of about three hours we battled it out, ate pizza, were spoiled by Mark's wife with brownies hot out of the oven, but most of all we had fun.

I was on the Union side on our left flank controlling a regiment and the battery of guns, while my friend had a regiment that he pushed up on our right. One of the best moments in the game for me came when after an intense shootout with a Confederate regiment is when I finally got my battery in place and able to use canister to take out a whole company. I also had some really good rolls to start the game out and had my opponent on the backfoot as he wasn't rolling anywhere near as well as I had. He did do a commendable job though of getting stuck in, but in the end the attrition suffered by the Confederates was too much.

The following pictures are the only ones I had a moment to take.

First picture here is of our two regiments giving each other a fist full of lead!

A side view of the same moment.

My battery opens up with cannister...

God rest those brave souls that stood their ground but in the end were very dead...

We went back and forth over some ideas for the game we would like in the future as well as some house rules we thought might spice things up.

As always thanks for looking.

Lunar: Blacksite Studio's Commonwealth Astronauts

So Blacksite studios released some more astronauts for their game Lunar. These are Commonwealth Astro’s from different parts of the old empire. I saw this paint scheme from Facebook group and really liked it so I copied it. My friend Mark (I guess he’s my friend) will make fun of these in some way and can’t wait to hear what he thinks of these boyz (this is a test to see if he really reads the blog).

Here are a few snaps each picture is how they are packaged when sold.

Here's the Ruckus: French 100 Years War

So Wargames Illistrated had a free set of rules in their issue 433 called Here’s the Ruckus. That was back in January or February in 2024 and I have basically just discovered it. You can of course get the rules by buying the issue or go to Wargames Illustrated (click on this link) and buy the rules and/or download all the freebies. I also watched a play through on 7th Son YouTube channel that was a fun watch and listen.

The game is inspired and influenced by Never Mind the Billhooks, but it is not a direct expansion to this game and the Ruckus rules are standalone, requiring a far smaller investment in miniatures (just twelve per-side).

This past week I painted up my first retinue of 100 Years War French, and later this week will paint up an English one. Pretty sure none of my friends will invest into this but I’ve always had a fancy for the period and so will trudge along and put on games or just play solo (even though I never solo but always say I will). Anyways enjoy the pics.
