Blog discription

What will you find here? Ramblings from an aging gamer-miniature painter. When I first started out in this hobby computers were in their infancy and finding other gamers could only be done by going to conventions or as in my case bumping into somebody who happened to see me reading "Panzer Leader" on the school bus. Look how far we have come! The internet has allowed our small community to be able to connect on a level I never dreamed of when I was but a small lad. What I do hope you will find here is something interesting from one wargamer/miniature painter to another. I paint miniatures somewhat decently, so I will be posting some pictures of my work, and perhaps a review or two of games and/or miniatures. Most of all this is just about having fun and anything I post here is meant to be for that reason.

Showcase: Necron Overlord

Spent all day working on this bad boy. It may look like a simple paint job, but 17 colors later here it is (of course with a ba zillion touch ups because of my shaky ass old hands;)).

Painted this up for my friend Al's Necron Army. So Al you  better sign up so you can leave a comment or your figure is being held hostage;)

WIP: Necron Overlord!

Today I started work on a friend's Necron Overlord. I've painted, then sold or traded most of my collection away over the years (which had I kept it I wouldn't be having to paint everything up again), but this is the first commission work I've ever done. It makes me bloody nervous as well! After all this figure costs 28 US dollars (that's right, a piece of bloody plastic), and if I botch it up it looks like I will be buying a 28 dollar broke Necron Overlord! SOoooo..... you get my point.

This figure is simply put, a beautiful piece of work. Problem is it's bloody delicate as hell, and fiddly.  At first, when assembling it, that's how it felt to me. As I continued to put it together I saw how other parts would support some of the delicate parts, but just barely. Then I came to the Necron arm holding the orb and there was no way in hell this was not going to break off when touching it during a game. So I got my ole trusty pin vise out and pinned the arm together. I am also trying a new way to flock the bases, where they get flocked and painted before I paint the miniature. PVA glue and bits, we will see how that works for me. In the meantime tune in later this week. I hope to have the figure completed for showing.

Showcase: Big Mek in Mega Armor

You'll recall that I averted a disaster with this figure a few days ago. Here is the finished product, and it took way more effort to paint then I thought it would, but it was still fun to paint.

Lot's of stuff could be done to improve these, but I am happy with them. Thanks for looking.

Disaster averted!!! OR Why you don't drop your miniature models on the floor

So I am working on my Big Mek in Mega Armor (you gotta love that word, not just like powered armor but MEGA armor!) with my fancy souped up paint bottle to help hold it for my old butt, and wouldn't you know it I dropped the stupid thing anyway. Straight to the floor upside down and landed on it's top and snap off came Tellyport blasta's and a side piece broke off. Fortunately I was able to glue it all back together, and a heavy sigh of relief can be heard around the world (Games Workshop sells these for your next born child so it's not something you want to break).

More Ork boyz

Got a chance to put together another batch of Games Workshops "Ork boyz" during the last couple of days and I have primed them and am ready to start painting. This batch I put together with choppa's (better in melee) instead of shoota's (better in shooting). I also had to sacrifice placing a boss pole on the Boss as the position I wanted him in wouldn't allow me to do it. Needing to do something special I added a little glitz to his belt. I think it's a pretty orky thing to do;)

The "Bad Moons" menace

Got my first batch of Ork shoota boyz done and I am pretty pleased with how they turned out. I went for a basic paint job so I could kick out all the Ork boyz I need in a shorter time. After all I don't need really 90 perfect basic troop types. I'll save the better paint jobs for the characters, etc.

Below are Ork shoota's
